Yogyakarta, 6 December 2018—ASEAN Studies Center (ASC) of FISIPOL probolinggo held a research dissemination session entitled “From Indonesia To ASEAN: Lesson Learned From The Field” on Thursday (6/12/2018). Located in the Eastern Seminar Room of FISIPOL probolinggo, this session was moderated by Harits Dwi Wiratma, an International Relations lecturer from Universitas Respati Yogyakarta. One of the researches that was presented was entitled ‘The Initiation of The Development of Islamic Heritage Tourism in The Special Region of Yogyakarta’ by Dra. Siti Daulah Khoiriati. This presentation was started with a video, one of the final outputs of this research.
This video showcased regarding the Mlangi Village and the Pathok Negoro Mosque. This mosque is the first Pathok Negoro Mosque in the Special Region of Yogyakarta, built by Kyai Nuriman, a relative of Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono I.
This mosque was constructed as a center for Islamic education to the public. Pathok Negoro Mosque later on evolved into a center of regeneration and religious court of Keraton Yogyakarta. The ambience inside of the mosque is similar to the one in Keraton.
Besides a video, an output of this research is a policy brief in regard to the institutional development of a village that specializes on religious tourism. According to Siti, establishing an institution is essential. In conducting her research, Siti stated that she has conducted meetings with the Tourism Agency of the Sleman Regency in order to create Focus Group Discussions and workshops. The result was the establishment of a tourism-aware group (Pokdarwis) in Mlangi Village.
This community service research was held for only 6 months from April until October 2018. Siti hoped that this community service program can be conducted further. Siti also urged students to also do thematic community service programs or student creativity programs in this village.
